Any member of 100+ for the Earth who commits to attending the meeting can nominate a nonprofit that they believe is doing valuable environmental work. Click here for member requirements.
You do not need to be a member, employee or board member of the nonprofit.
You do not need to verify exactly how the donated funds will be used.
You do not need to be an expert speaker; just speak from the heart.
The three 100+ for the Earth organizers cannot nominate a nonprofit through 2026.
It must be a 501(c)(3), educational or tribal organization.
Its focus must be environmental.
It must have served/operated in Southwest Colorado for at least three years.
All nominated nonprofits will be vetted.
Submit a nomination form at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting date. If you have previously submitted a nomination form for a nonprofit that did not receive a donation, you can email us if you'd like to nominate the nonprofit again instead of submitting another form. Email us at 100fortheearth.org.
After vetting the nonprofit, we will inform you of your nomination approval via email.
All nominations will be entered into a random "fishbowl" drawing. Three nominations plus one alternate will be drawn.
The three nominees and the alternate will be notified by email and given detailed information about the "pitching" process.
At the meeting all nominated nonprofits will be listed and the three randomly selected ones will be announced. For each of the three selected nominations, the person nominating will have 5 minutes to present the nonprofit and 5 minutes to answer questions. We encourage nominators to bring representatives from the nonprofit to help answer questions.
Tips for Presenting a Nominated Nonprofit
Overall Tips
You do not need to be an expert on the organization; you just need to explain why you support them.
• Make it simple and speak from the heart.
• Tell your story – why does this organization matter to you?
• Discuss a specific project the funds will be used for.
• End with a heartfelt ask and a thank you.
Talking Points for Presentation
1. Consider starting with an engaging opening line. (“Pneumonia can land us in the hospital. It can land Big Horn Sheep on the endangered species list.”)
2. State your name and the name of the organization.
3. How long has the organization been around?
4. What geographic area or population within Southwest Colorado do they serve?
5. What is their mission and how do they benefit the environment and community?
6. How would the funds be used? Provide specifics if you know them:
• New or existing program?
• Will the charity be able to sustain the program after the funds are used?
• What will be the impact of the funds?
7. What is your relationship to the organization?
8. End with a heartfelt ask and a thank you.
5 Minutes of Questions
• You are welcome to bring additional people up to assist with answering questions.
• They can be associated with the leadership team at the organization or they can be beneficiaries of the organization.
• Please introduce anyone you ask up to join you.
• Some typical member questions that you might expect:
o What are your other sources of funding?
o How will the money be used and what would the impact be?
o How many volunteers do you have and what are the volunteer opportunities?
Reminders
The person who submitted the nomination, must be the one to present in person at the meeting.
Please don’t bring any visual aides, handouts, etc. Just you and your words! Notes are okay!
